Professor Lize Maree’s ANSA nomination is based on her contribution to the field of oncology and palliative care nursing. Except for preparing baccalaureate, master’s and currently PhD students in this field, her body of research focuses on cancer prevention, the patient with cervical cancer and the needs of underprivileged people requiring palliative care nursing. Prof Maree’s work is this field was recognised by the International Atomic Energy Agency with her appointment as expert for Africa and other developing countries. Prof Maree was also in the privileged position to initiate a cancer and palliative care clinic in a resource restricted community by means of the UNEDSA project funded by the Atlantic Philanthropies.
