Message from the President
It is a privilege to serve as President of the Academy of Nursing of South Africa at a time when nursing leadership, scholarship and professional connection are more important than ever.
During 2026, ANSA continued to build on its role as a professional and scholarly home for nurse leaders, educators, clinicians and researchers. As we move towards 2027, we want to strengthen that foundation by becoming even more visible, connected and outward-facing.
We aim to have our website and digital platforms serve as spaces that position ANSA as an active voice in nursing, showcase South African nursing scholarship and leadership, and connect the Academy with national and international conversations shaping the future of the profession.
During 2027, we hope to strengthen several areas of engagement. These will include showcasing the scholarship of our members through a featured article of the month, expanding access to MEDTALKZ, sharing upcoming conferences and professional opportunities, strengthening our LinkedIn presence, and inviting members to contribute short reflections, commentaries, photographs or other material that reflects the richness of nursing scholarship and practice.
A further priority will be the development of the ANSA Mentorship Programme. Through purposeful developmental relationships, we hope to connect experience with emerging potential and create opportunities for nurses to grow as scholars, professionals and leaders. We will also continue to strengthen the visibility of opportunities for ANSA Fellowship, nominations and participation in Academy activities.
Underlying these initiatives is a simple intention: ANSA should be an Academy that contributes visibly to the profession, creates opportunities for connection and development, and supports the ongoing becoming of nursing scholars and leaders.
I look forward to working with our Fellows, members, partners and the wider nursing community as we continue to grow ANSA as a vibrant scholarly community and a strong voice for nursing in South Africa and beyond.

Academy of Nursing of South Africa
The Academy of Nursing of South Africa is an independent, non-governmental association of members (Fellows). The Academy is registered as a Non-profit Organisation (Act 1997, Section 13).
VISION
The vision of ANSA is to recognize, utilize and promote excellence in nursing and midwifery in South Africa and to enhance optimal health care for all South Africans.
MISSION
The Mission of ANSA is to serve the people of South Africa and to contribute to the nursing profession by promoting excellence in nursing and health care through the generation, synthesis and dissemination of nursing knowledge, particularly in specialist areas.
VALUES
In all its activities, ANSA is committed to:
- Promotion of excellence in all aspects of nursing;
- Promotion of evidence-based policy and practice in health care;
- Working collaboratively with other organizations and stakeholders who share this commitment.
