ANSA Mentorship Programme
The Academy of Nursing of South Africa (ANSA) Mentorship Programme is a structured developmental initiative aimed at strengthening the next generation of nursing scholars, leaders and professionals. The programme creates opportunities for experienced members of the nursing profession to support colleagues through purposeful mentoring relationships centred on reflection, development, professional growth and becoming.
Mentoring extends beyond the transfer of knowledge or career advice. Through regular developmental conversations, mentors support mentees to clarify their goals, reflect critically on their professional journeys, navigate challenges, strengthen scholarly and leadership capacity, and identify opportunities for further development. The programme recognises mentorship as a reciprocal relationship in which both mentor and mentee contribute to learning and professional growth.
The programme is being developed around three interconnected elements: ANSA programme governance and support; preparation and resources for mentors and mentees; and the individual mentoring relationship. Mentoring relationships will have agreed goals and expectations, regular opportunities for engagement and reflection, and a defined period of participation.
Opportunities to participate
ANSA will periodically invite members of the nursing community to participate in the Mentorship Programme as mentors or mentees. Experienced nurse scholars and leaders will have opportunities to contribute as mentors, while nurses seeking further scholarly, professional or leadership development may apply to participate as mentees.
Information regarding eligibility, application processes, programme dates and calls for mentors and mentees will be published on the ANSA website as opportunities become available.
