Christa has established herself as leader through her role in the Maternal-Child Health Nurse Leadership Academy in Africa and her continuous commitment and passion for young developing leaders in the field of nursing and midwifery practice. Her excellence in mentorship is evidenced by securing research funds for three established researchers over the past ten years and also for two postdoctoral PLUME researchers. She excelled in the field of nursing and midwifery research through education of undergraduate and postgraduate students from various health professions in Research Methods. As co author and reviewer of a prominent textbook on research methods she ensures that students have access to an affordable, quality textbook. As researcher who developed later in her life, she demonstrates her expertise in research through her continuous involvement in three international funded research projects (refer to CV) and in facilitating a successful research internship programme for post-doc students at the North-West University. Christa made a significant contribution to evidence-based practice, not only in South Africa but also in other African countries such as Malawi, Uganda, Kenya and Swaziland. At the same time she developed and implemented innovative evidence-informed teaching strategies in midwifery education on both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
